Cycling goes underground at subterranean bike park

Cycling might be counterculture, but never before has it been quite as underground as the Mega Cavern mountain bike park – a 350,000 square feet subterranean trail system in Louisville, Kentucky.

The disused limestone quarry has 90-ft ceilings, a constant year-round temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and as a former dumping site for hardcore from local building sites, no shortage of material to turn into ramps and tabletops.

The jumps and singletrack currently cover the area of four British football pitches, but occupy only 10 per cent of the quarry. If the bike park proves a success it could expand to well over 100 miles of track.

Visitors will be offered half or full-day passes, bikes to rent and a mechanic will be on hand to offer repairs.

The ethical choice

The ETA was established in 1990 as an ethical provider of green, reliable travel services. Over 30 years on, we continue to offer cycle insurance , breakdown cover and mobility scooter insurance while putting concern for the environment at the heart of all we do.

The Good Shopping Guide judges us to be the UK’s most ethical provider.

What our customers say

“Thanks to the ETA for the prompt settlement of my claim. I was gutted to fall and damage my bike but the ETA were kind in all their communications and I now have my new bike. I just still need a few repairs on my body!!” Helen Palmer

“I bought ETA Cycle Insurance rather than that of a competitor’s primarily because of your willingness to respond to my situation. Every other company I spoke to demanded in no uncertain terms that I spend a large amount of money on an independent valuation, before I even got to the question of the lock. So thanks very much for being so accommodating.” Will Seymour

“My bike claim was processed without fuss or issues. Anyone thinking of insuring their bike should definitely consider the ETA.” Pablo Beckhurst
