Stained glass car of the future

Many a motorist spends an hour or more each Sunday morning in devotion to their car, cleaning it inside and out, but according to designer David Wilcox, the car of the near future may look quite literally like a place of worship.

Wilcox was commissioned by Dezeen.com and an exhibition on the future of mobility to imagine a driverless car that was crash proof and thereby free to have bodywork of any type.

The result is the Stained-glass Driverless Sleeper Car of the Future – one of a number of bodywork concepts that Wilcox imagines for a driverless car chassis.

Amusing ideas. But the driverless car will not be crash-proof. Human beings are not infallible. Anything we create may contain flaws. Nothing that we create is perfect. Driverless cars may be very safe but they won’t be completely safe. If something can go wrong, then at some point, or in some combination of circumstances, it will.
