A growing appetite for nostalgic cycle rides is as much in evidence across the channel as it is here. While we have the Tweed Run, an event held in London each year that grows in popularity by the year and currently has to hold a lottery to allocate places, the French have the Anjou Velo Vintage bicycle festival.
With an emphasis on recapturing the style and atmosphere of the early days of cycling, there are a number of events including the 1903 Retro. In order to take part you must be riding a bike from 1987 without handlebar gear shifters or cleats.
Participants are encouraged to don period costume in line with their Grand Bi, Hirondelle or Mercier in homage to the pioneers of Tour de France.
