Cycle Derby gets 2,000 kids on their bicycles

A team of cycle trainers in Derby has succeeded in getting 2,000 children to regularly commute to school by bike.

The Cycle Derby initiative has been running for four years and over that time has had to contend with a ‘lost generation’ of cyclists – parents who have not introduced their children to cycling because they never cycled themselves.

It is estimated this sort of blow to the culture of cycling can take ten years to reverse, but a loss of funding means Cycle Derby’s days are numbered.

The Environmental Transport Association travelled to Derby to report on the valuable work being done to get kids and adults onto two wheels.
