Rail commuters get first Boris Bikes ‘super dock’

Rail commuters at Waterloo now have the use of a super-sized docking station designed to house 126 Boris Bikes – the first to be opened at a mainline railway station.

There had been concerns that docking stations sited near to railway stations would empty or fill too quickly, but Transport for London says it is reacting to an ever-increasing demand for the hire bikes at mainland stations.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “The runaway success of the Boris Bikes means that ignoring railway terminals won’t work – the problems associated with over demand simply move to the next nearest docking point.”

Two million trips have already been made on Boris Bikes and the cycle hire scheme is to expand in time for the Olympics to around 8,000 bikes from 14,400 docking points.
