Flashy bicycle tyres boast LED lights

There are now very few parts of a cyclist’s clothing or bicycle for which there are not flashing lights available to buy.

Following the development of illuminated spokes, jackets with sewn-in indicators, neon strip lights, flashing tyre valve caps and all manner of handlebar and helmet-mounted high-intensity discharge lights, some of which are more powerful that car headlamps, comes news of a bicycle tyre with built-in LED lights.

Cyglo tyres use durable LED bulbs embedded into the tyre tread or wall to form a ring of high-powered light to maximise the visibility of cyclists to other road users. The tyres are available with either white or red bulbs.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “Novelty lights are great fun, but the most meaningful recent development in cycle lighting has been the change in the law to make it legal to use flashing lights as a bike’s only illumination at night.”

I’ve seen the light – fully-comp cycle insurance

Every cycle insurance policy from the ETA covers against theft, vandalism and accidental damage (even at race events) and includes third party insurance (on any bike you ride), personal accident cover, bicycle breakdown cover and more.
