Mountain bikes are the default choice for most cyclists, but a promotional film for the forthcoming Bike Radar Live event shows a Raleigh road bike taking on the most extreme of off-road conditions.
The clip sees British trials rider Martyn Ashton using his carbon-framed Raleigh to hop over boulders, perform flips at a skate park and cross Clifton suspension bridge as it has never been ridden before.
Ultimate hybrid?
The Raleigh Avanti Team retails for between £2,500 and £3,500 and although it is unlikely to be bought as an all-rounder, the film demonstrates the strength of its frame, forks and wheels.
BikeRadar Live takes place on 10-11 July.

Who needs a MTB when a road bike can do this? During the making of the film the bike suffered no serious damage and only one puncture, which happened on a paved road. A spokesperson for ilovemybike.co.uk said: “To those of us without a budget of thousands, this film proves that rider skill and fitness outweigh choice of bike.” |
