It doesn’t seem that long ago that novice cyclists had to make do with a school playground and a line of cones when learning to ride, but Honda this week unveiled a bicycle simulator designed to teach safety skills away from busy roads.
The Honda Bicycle Simulator reproduces a variety of road conditions in order to teach the relevant road skills to children, commuters and occasional cyclists.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “Simulators cannot replace the need for on-the-road training, but they are useful for recreating the unforeseen events that can cause accidents.”
Do I need cycle insurance?
The short answer is yes. Bikes are vulnerable to theft and in the case of an accident you may need to seek compensation or even deal with a claim by someone else. Cycle insurance from the ETA includes new-for-old replacement, third party insurance, personal accident cover and if you breakdown, they will even come out and recover you and your bike.
