Bike theft triggers security concerns

The mother of a bike theft victim in Cheshire is calling for more security to prevent the same ordeal from happening again.

Kath Wheawell’s 14-year-old son Adam had his bike stolen along with another from outside Bewsey Farm Community Centre.

Adam, who suffers from autism, was at an Army Cadets meeting when the incident took place. Mrs Wheawell said: “Adam is so upset about his bike being stolen. People don’t think of the knock-on effect of their actions and the impact it has on lives.”

Adam now has to take the bus to school and is unable to get to cadets because of the bike theft, which is the only time he gets to go out.

Mrs Wheawell is urging Cheshire County Council to set up secure bicycle racks to prevent any further bike thefts.

Insurance for bicycles

Bikes are particularly vulnerable to theft – it’s the reason that an estimated 500,000 bikes are stolen each year in Britain. Furthermore, in the case of an accident cyclists may need to seek compensation or even deal with a claim by someone else. Cycle insurance from the ETA is fully comprehensive.

At no extra cost, it includes new-for-old replacement, cover for accidental damage, third party insurance, personal accident cover and if you breakdown, a van comes out to recover you and your bike.
