As authorities around the country crack down on drink driving, West Yorkshire Police has revealed that it breathalysed more than 5,500 motorists last month.
The force took samples of breath from 5,546 people during June, with 599 found to be over the legal limit.
This represents a 23 per cent fall when compared to last year, when there were 230 positive tests out of 1,628.
Bob Wilkinson, head of the roads policing unit for West Yorkshire Police, said it is “pleasing” that this has dropped, however, he added that some motorists are still willing to drink and drive.
He stated: “Any number other than zero is too high as far as we are concerned and this is why we have carried out such an effective campaign this summer and will continue to enforce our anti drink-drive message throughout the year.”
Recently, Essex Police launched a crackdown on drivers using mobile phones while behind the wheel.
