Gov’t ‘should increase renewable energy focus’

The government needs to increase its focus on using renewable energy to power vehicles, according to the Green Party.

A spokesperson for the group said this would help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In reaction to news of plans to modernise Britain’s railway system, they said: “What would really make a difference is if national energy powering the electricity, was powered by renewable resources.”

The spokesperson added the government should “increase the amount of renewable energy in proportion to the amount of energy consumed”.

He went on to state that more railway lines in Britain should also be electrified, also saying that money should also be invested in solar wind projects, rather than “supporting the expense of aviation”.

Recently, the Department for Transport announced a new government scheme to create a “21st century railway”, which will aim to cut carbon emissions, boost the UK’s economy and improve journeys for passengers.
