Cycling is ‘eco-friendly and cool’

Cycling is seen as not only an eco-friendly way of getting around, but also a cool and healthy method of transport.

Tim Lewis writes in the Observer newspaper that in some ways pedal power is “unrecognisable” today from when he first began biking to work a decade ago.

He explained that when he started out there was a single rack which could accommodate six bicycles at his work car park.

However, now there are 150 spaces for bikes and ten showers so that cyclists can clean up after their commute.

Mr Lewis suggested several reasons why this change in attitude may have happened in Britain, stating it could be down to increasing petrol prices, rising awareness of eco-issues, the July 7th London bombings and the government’s Cycle2Work schemes.
