The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has released advice to protect those planning long journeys this summer.
According to the group, many Brits will be taking trips on roads which are not familiar to them between July and September as part of holidays, with 661 people killed in road crashes during this period last year.
In a bid to improve safety, the DSA is advising that motorists take steps such as switching off their phone before setting off and ensuring that they take a 15-minute break for every two hours on the road.
Meanwhile, those towing a caravan should make themselves familiar with the rules and regulations associated with doing this.
Trevor Wedge, chief examiner with the DSA, suggested motorists should look out for the group’s tips, adding everyone wants their summer break to "get off to the bets possible start" by avoiding any trouble on the roads.
