Loopwheels for mountain bikes

Loopwheel claim their latest design will revolutionise downhill mountain biking.

Loopwheels for mountain bikes

Loopwheel launched as a Kickstarter project supplying 20″ wheels for folding bikes.  The company is now working on a 26″ MTB version.

Replacing spoke wheels on a folder with Loopwheels has no detrimental impact on folding action and adds approximately 780 grams in weight.

A spring system between the hub and the rim of the wheel provides suspension, cushioning the rider from bumps and potholes.

Loopwheels for mountain bikes have a conventional hub with a hub brake and hub gears, but the spokes are replaced by a carbon composite spring system that are claimed to give a smooth and comfortable ride over rough surfaces compared with a conventional spoked wheel.

Unlike suspended forks, Loopwheels provide tangential suspension: that is, they give 45 mm of travel in every direction. They respond to a force hit head-on in the same way as they do to a force from above or below.

Suspension for folding bikes

Most folding bikes do not have suspension because conventional suspension forks add weight and bulk to the bicycle – particularly unwelcome because folders are often carried. 20″ Loopwheels offer an effective, if expensive, alternative.

    Hello,
we intend to buy a tandem tricycle with a net weight of 50 kg and electrical assistance. This tricycle is not provided with suspension. The total pay load of the device is 250 kg.
It has one single forward 20″ wheel with the electrical motor and two 20″ wheels on the rear. One rear wheel is provided with a 8 speed shimano shifting gear and a hydraulic disc brake, the other wheel just has a hydraulic disk break. Both wheels are independant.
I would like to change both rear wheels by loop wheels for mountain bikes.
Could you agree and advice with this configuration and what would be the approximate cost?
    Thanks for answering,
    Jos
