Impossible: World’s smallest electric bike

Impossible is the aptly named electric scooter that folds to half the size of a shoe box.

The tiny scooter weighs less than 5 kg and is so small that, when folded, it fits inside a standard-sized rucksack alongside a laptop.

Built from carbon fibre and steel, the tiny vehicle is capable of carrying an adult at speeds of up to 12mph. It’s 10 batteries can store enough power for a journey of up to 45 minutes.

Although the Impossible scooter can rightfully claim to be the world’s smallest e-bike, and appears at home on smooth surfaces, it is questionable whether it would survive the average British road.

The Impossible is still in development, and the bike shown here an advance prototype, but the finished article can be ordered for £350 via crowd-funding website Kickstarter.

Up to 250W covered

When you compare cycle insurance for your electric bicycle, it is vitally important to check the small print. Almost every single pedelec or electric bicycle sold and in use in Britain today is rated at 250 W. However, some cycle insurers do not cover bikes over 200 W. Cycle insurance from the ETA extends its definition of a cycle to include any mechanically or electronically-assisted bicycle weighing less than 60 kg and with an output not exceeding 250 W /15.5 mph.
