Stylish bicycle basket pops up

The bicycle basket is as practical an accessory as a pair of full-length mudguards, but just as unlikely to be fitted by the average cyclist.

Bicycle baskets are commonplace in continental Europe, but are regarded as so unfashionable by some British cyclists that they are believed to provide a strong deterrent against bike theft.

However, the increasing popularity of retro brands such as Pashley has seen a resurgence of wicker baskets and amongst a new breed of alternative bicycle baskets comes the Pop-Up Bicycle Basket.

The Pop-Up Bicycle Basket is designed to be posted flat and can be installed at either the front or rear of almost any bicycle.

The designers of the pop-up basket, Jaime Salm and Brian Kelly, aim to encourage urban cycling through ‘beauty and function’ and believe cycling deserves the same attention to design and utility given to its less environmentally-friendly transport counterparts.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “As more people discover the joy of urban cycling, practical and stylish accessories are a bound to flourish.”
