A new version of the award-winning GoCycle electric bicycle is to be sold without a motor or battery and pitched to cyclists who, according to the designers, “don’t mind breaking a sweat on their way to work.”
Riders of the Gocycle Black who later decide they would like a little help with the pedalling can retrofit purchase the EmpowerPack at any time to upgrade the model with electric power.
The limited edition Gocycle Black shares the same lightweight magnesium frame as the standard Gocycle, but features a steeper head angle to provide sportier handling.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “The ability of the GoCycle to boost a rider’s efforts over a distance of 20 miles could easily be the difference between someone commuting by bike or not, and for that alone it should be applauded.”
Insurance for folding bicycles (electric ones, too)
The ETA offers a 40% discount on folding bicycles. Cycle insurance from the ETA includes new-for-old, third party insurance (in the case of an accident you may need to seek compensation or even deal with a claim by someone else), personal accident cover, race event cover and if you suffer a mechanical breakdown, they will come out and recover you and your bike. Electric bicycles can also be covered.
