Cycling in south-east England is set to receive a boost this week when West Sussex County Council starts work to convert the A259 pavement into a shared-use cycle route.
Derek Whittington, county council cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, said: “This is part of the county council’s plan to implement 20 km of new cycle routes in west Sussex this financial year.
“The county council is trying to encourage more people to walk and cycle, which is not only good for their health, but is also environmentally friendly.”
Around £180,000 is being injected into the scheme by the local authority which will see the installation of new signs, road markings and lighting. The project is scheduled for completion within the next 12 weeks.
