Cyclists in Lancashire have received a boost this week.
The Highways Agency, an executive branch of the Department for Transport, has revealed that it has injected £220,000 into a cycling project along the A585 near Fleetwood.
Under the scheme, construction work will be carried out on an 800 metre stretch of Amounderness Way at Thornton-Cleveleys to enhance safety for cyclists.
Improvements include new street lighting, signing and kerbing.
Highway Agency project manager Peter Hamer said: “This is a busy, single-carriageway section of the A585 and these improvements will reduce the conflict between different users of the route and provide enhanced safety for pedestrians and ultimately cyclists too.
“We appreciate that some drivers travelling off-peak maybe inconvenienced but I am sure road users will appreciate the benefits these improvements will bring for everyone using the route.”
Work is being conducted daily during off-peak hours between 9:30 and 15:30 GMT.
A 40 mph speed limit has been put in place for the duration of the work and a two-way traffic lights system has been set-up to manage vehicle flow.
