Railway stations set for £14 million cycle hub investment

Facilities for cyclists at railway stations are to benefit from a £14 million investment scheme.

10,000 extra parking spaces for bikes across the country and ten main railway stations at Waterloo, Victoria, St Pancras (in London), Leeds, Sheffield, York, Hull, Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Liverpool Lime Street, will be turned into so-called “cycle hubs” offering repairs, bike hire and secure, supervised parking.

Lord Adonis, the transport minister, commented: “For too long we have hesitated to promote cycling – the greenest form of travel – as a mainstream form of transport.”

In other cycling news, it was recently revealed that around £6 million is being spent on work to put new walk and cycle paths in place which will link up with secondary schools in Barnsley.
