Drivers ‘missing MOT renewal’

Millions of British drivers invalidate their car insurance by missing their MOT renewal date.

According to a recent study, 4.7 million motorists allow their MOT to lapse in this way. Of these, 52 per cent book their car in for its MOT within a week of its expiration date, while 36 per cent take as long as a month.

Meanwhile, 12 per cent leave their renewal for anything up to a year.

A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “Drivers may not realise that driving without a valid MOT is not only potentially dangerous, but can invalidate their car insurance.”

Green car insurance

The ETA provides motorists and cyclists with green breakdown cover and green insurance products and campaigns for sustainable transport.
