Scalextric used for road safety lessons

The drivers of the future have been given hints and tips on road safety with the help of the slot-car racing game, Scalextric.

Schoolchildren were shown the dos and don’ts of driving as part of the Project Kickstart campaign, which aims to educate youngsters on the hazards that they will face when they get out onto the roads.

The latest Scalextric kit allows two vehicles to travel in opposite directions so in order to avoid collisions the students had to identify hazard points and act accordingly.

Police community support officer Laura Wheeler commented that this is one of many schemes planned to improve performance on the road.

She added: “The students really enjoyed the session and learnt things that will assist in making them safer drivers in the future.”
