Dishonesty bumps up insurance cost

British motorists are being hit with charges of up to £150 each on their car insurance due to the actions of others, the latest research has revealed.

According to the study, dishonesty is the main reason for increased premiums, with factors such as damage caused by those without a policy and fraudsters adding to the price.

According to the research, around £66 of the £150 comes from claims made by drivers suffering from whiplash after an accident.

In a poll of British drivers conducted by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), one third of motorists admitted that having their car damaged by an uninsured driver was the unexpected motoring cost they feared the most.

What is the ETA?

The ETA provides motorists and cyclists with green breakdown cover and insurance products.
