A new type of environmentally-friendly engine oil is made not from petrochemicals but recycled tallow, a completely biodegradable byproduct of farming.
G-OIL claims to have a performance comparable with traditional petrochemical-based motor oils. Currently only available in America, the lubricant is the world’s first bio-based motor oil to achieve certification from the American Petroleum Institute.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “We have not yet had a chance to test this product, but it appears to offer a relatively green and competitively-priced alternative to traditional motor oil.”
What makes G-Oil green?
Unlike traditional petrochemical-based motor oils, Green Earth Technologies’ G-OIL is made with American-grown renewable animal fats. These saturated fats, whose molecular single-bond carbon chains are similar to common petroleum oils, have no harsh effects on the environment, and drastically reduce dependence on fossil fuels; it takes three barrels of crude oil to make one barrel of motor oil, but only one barrel of animal fat to produce one barrel of G-OIL.
