However you travel, what better way of sheltering from blustery conditions than an umbrella emblazoned with a promise of blue skies?
The umbrella is standard issue for any journey in Britain – however one travels and whatever the time of year. Its design has remained largely unchanged for thousands of years, but the risk of losing one has not diminished over time. The lost property office at Transport for London stores 12,000 lost umbrellas on a typical day.
Win yourself a blue skies umbrella (or a pair of overshoes)
We have either a blue-sky umbrella or a pair of waterproof neoprene overshoes to give away. Leave us a comment at the bottom of this page to enter the draw. If we pick your name we’ll ask which you prefer.

Mr Christopher Rawlinson
The rain is here
I can see it in the sky
But I’ll have my blue umbrella
To keep me dry
Gillian
Talk about turning an established design concept on its head!!
Phil
Surely I am a shoe in
DarC
An example of blue-sky-thinking?
deadmanjones
I’d like an umbrella that works the opposite way to how you’re expect for my partner, because they do too.
Craig Young
How appropriate. I don’t think it’s stopped raining since this competition was posted!
Mark B
Both are rather wonderful and needed.
Alastair
A great idea, looks good too!
Chris
Just about to look for new overshoes as mine have now got a hole in the side. I’ll hold fire and keep my fingers crossed
John Gwatkin-Williams
The rain it raineth every day
Upon the just and unjust fella
But mostly on the just because
The unjust hath the just’s umbrella
Clive
Wet feet = miserable ride.
Rob Lewis
I would love a new pair of overshoes, as mine are getting very tatty – and they leak!
Dave Anthony
I’d prefer there is no rain on a bike ever! We should be able to hibernate away and it be socially acceptable! Fair weather people unite!
Jenny C
Out of the blue a fab umbrella
Steve K
Can’t somebody design an umbrella which could also function as a life raft?
That might be really handy this week.
Richard
Overshoes please, size 10
Richard Newman
Blue skies smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies do I see.
Blue birds singing a song
Nothing but blue skies from now on.
[Irving Berlin]
Pamela
I’d like the overshoes because cycling with soaking wet feet is miserable.
Tobi James
Another competition without me as a winner. But if lightning strikes I guess I need an umbrella bring the thunder.
Steve
Here comes the rain again…
Vincent
Umbrella for me please. My wife is always using mine.
Andy Brown
Keep me dry, bring me sunshine
Iain Shanks

I’d like an umbrella that works the opposite way to how you’re expect for my partner, because they do too

Vicki Soul
Yes please, waterproof over shoes would be so helpful!
Helen
What a cheerful brolly. And oh, for some dry feet on my cycle…
John Davidson
I’d really like the umbrella to look up and see blue skies.
Mags
An inside-out umbrella, keeping drips off the carpet indoors. Yes please! (Already have overshoes, little worn – I don’t like riding in the rain!)
Philip Gregg
Overshoes please.
Torun
Absolute genius!!! Who came up with reverse umbrella?
Now I can’t sword fence my colleagues at work.
Matthew Blackmore
Great overshoes, yes please size 8! Great timing as my last pair just died!
Bazza
Golly, what a brolly! I could use that right now.
ChrisB
with so much rain lately, either of these would be welcome
David
Trouble with this brollie is you must not look up when it’s deployed, or you will think the rain has stopped & the sun has come out.
Trouble the overshoes is if you walk in them, you must not step in a puddle.
They say troubles come in three’s, so I must be the third!
Oh, by the way, can I have the Brollie please?
Lesley
Anything that keeps the rain off head or feet would be fab!!
Les Gunbie
I was blue, just as blue as I could be
Ev’ry day was a cloudy day for me
Then good luck came a-knocking at my door
Skies were gray but they’re not gray anymore
Kelly Smith
Would love a new set of overshoes; mine are falling apart!
James
The umbrella looks a great idea would love to try one
Moragh
Love both of these but I need a brolly more – would love 1 like this.
Karl Wallendszus
It’s the umbrella for me! One of those items that makes you wonder why nobody has thought of it before.
JohnB
Hmmm, not sure which of these I would choose – probably the overshoes because I always seem to lose umbrellas very quickly!
Bill
I also try not to cycle in the pouring rain if I can help it…Definitely no fun at all. Therefore, it would have to be the umbrella for me. This one looks great and my one broke the other day in the wind and rain…!
Peter Clark
The umbrella looks really interesting but my overshoes need replacing so I’d choose that if lucky enough to win
Sarah
Perfect for keeping dry in this continual downpour.
Peter Chisnall
Rain, rain go away
Diane Seville
Rain, rain go away, don’t come back another day! I would choose overshoes, my brollies always break as I live on a windy coast.
Fred
Hate wet feet. Overshoes will do nicely
Lonnie
Any umbrellas to win today!
Andy
No more soaked socks would be good
TD
Umbrella ….overshoes would be great as well; I tend to use my partners!! 🙁
richard
need all the encouragement to get up and go when the weather is cold and wet, just looked out the window and there are a few snow flakes drifting around in the south east
