It’s possible to ride 1,000 uneventful miles only for the puncture fairy to strike with a vengeance. Nobody knows why, but flats, like buses, turn up in twos and threes.
Bicycle tyre punctures: Be prepared
You can reduce the stress of an unplanned roadside pit-stop by carrying good quality tools. And with the weather soon to improve, and many bikes set to emerge from winter hibernation, we’re giving away a Park Tool puncture repair kit.
The kit comes in a tool roll containing:
- Micro Pump
- Multi tool
- Pre-glued GP-2 ‘super patches’
- Tyre levers
- Emergency tyre boot*
- Pressure gauge
- Schrader / Presta adaptor
If you have ETA cycle insurance, don’t forget it includes Cycle Rescue. If you suffer a mechanical breakdown while cycling (including punctures or a flat battery when using an e-bike), we’ll arrange for you and your bike to be recovered.
*A patch for the inside of your tyre (as opposed to the inner tube) in case it’s badly holed or torn.
Win a Park Tool puncture repair kit
To be in with a chance of winning the Park Tool BTR-1 puncture repair kit, leave us a comment below and we’ll pick a name next week.
The ethical choice
The ETA was established in 1990 as an ethical provider of green, reliable travel services. Over 30 years on, we continue to offer cycle insurance , breakdown cover and mobility scooter insurance while putting concern for the environment at the heart of all we do.
The Good Shopping Guide judges us to be the UK’s most ethical provider.

Looks like a comprehensive kit that every cyclist should carry, today’s roads being what they are.
Peter Moore
Banish the puncture fairy?? Come on, ETA – sort yourselves out! You should welcome the puncture fairy, embrace the puncture fairy. The puncture fairy is the one who comes along and fixes the puncture! It’s the puncture troll, the puncture gremlin you should be after! 😉
Anthony Singleton
This would be perfect for taking with me on audax’s
Rob Lewis
The bit about punctures coming in multiples is so true! This kit would be fantastic on tours, and the emergency tyre boot would avoid the need to carry a spare folding tyre, which is what I do at the moment.
Vinnie
Oh that pressure gauge.
David Fisher
I’ve had 3 friends get punctures in the last week, a good repair kit would be most welcome. However my current tyre levers areover 50 years old, I had them as a kid and they’re better than any new ones I’ve used.
Philip Woodford
I’m looking forward to not winning again, thank you!
Jim
Looks like a great piece of kit 👍
Jenny C
Great prize as usual!
Gary
Perfect timing! I’ve just had my toolkit stolen from my bike whilst in town….🤯…🙏

Nicette
How I do hate punctures, but your tool kit would most certainly help.
Peter Clark
I have your breakdown insurance but I’ve never called them and I would see it as a sign of failure so anything to help me to get myself back on the road would be welcome!
Steve K
I’d love to win this, and hope I’ll never use it (some chance)
Jan Chisholm
Cycle more, drive less for the future of the planet!
Robert Inder
My new bike has taught me how good the “puncture proof” tyres on my old bike really were: one problem every three or four years to five problems in less than one year!
So suddenly, something like this seems like a really good idea…
Peter Lawson
Scotland’s roads are truly appalling….punctures galore. This kit would be soooooo well used.
Jane Reid
What a brilliant prize. Just what I need.
Tommy Knowland
Really pumped up by this prize

I love park tools and they have great bike repair videos on their website.

So useful. As a ride leader I’m always amazed how many cyclists don’t have equipment to deal with a puncture.
Annie
Banish the thorny trolls, bring in the pumped up repair fairy. I’d love to be equipped with this bundle of roadside magic!
Judith Rout
That puncture fairy can be a bit sadistic!
John
Punctures are a nightmare especially now it’s hedge cutting season. Why don’t people sweep up after themselves, it would certainly help anyway
James Taylor
This looks like good quality kit!
Stephen Warne
It’s gonna happen someday, wether it’s a prize or a puncture!
J Stables
I’m so fed up with punctures this winter…please send me a repair kit. I need it !!

Last Autumn got the mother of all thorns in my tyre. Not properly equipped, so had to call out the cavalry – a golf game was interrupted. Better not do that again!!!

No doubt my repair kit has dried out by now.
new tools are always good.
Craig Young
I’d love to give these wet adhesive free patches a go!? They sound simpler.
wesley
I’d like to think this would ease the pain of another puncture. Tyre patches sound very handy for those nasty holes you get sometimes.
Bernard
This would be great to have on hand when the inevitable happens. The tyre patches could save the day.
Simon
This would be awesome, been struck with some puncture bad luck recently.
Ema A
