Android-compatible tracker and bicycle frame mount up for grabs

tile pro tracker

When we gave away an Airtag tracker last week, someone on Twitter spoke up on behalf of android users. We promised to redress the imbalance and, true to our word, here we are with a Tile Pro and bicycle mount.

Without GPS trackers it’s almost impossible to recover stolen bicycles; it’s why the police give so little priority to the crime. An investigation by a national newspaper last year revealed no suspect is identified or charged in 87 per cent of cases. In other words, cycle thieves in the UK are very likely to get away with it.

Trackers can’t replace the need for a good cycle insurance policy, but they’re useful bits of kit nevertheless. The Tile Pro share many features with its Apple Airtag counterpart, but the ‘find my phone’ feature is exclusive to the android device; you can double press the button on the Tile to make your phone ring, even when it’s on silent.

3D-printed bike tracker mount

This 3D-printed mounting system to hold the Tile Pro to your bike frame makes use of the existing bottle cage holes. Its makers claim an anti-rattle design avoids any unwelcome noise while riding.

The ethical choice

The ETA was established in 1990 as an ethical provider of green, reliable travel services. Over 30 years on, we continue to offer cycle insurance , breakdown cover  and mobility scooter insurance while putting concern for the environment at the heart of all we do.

The Good Shopping Guide judges us to be the UK’s most ethical provider.

I’ve recently been testing the android version of the Air Tag for a ‘Ride with Roy’review. I rode with an AirTag user while I used a loaned android version. My expectations of the Android version were low but I was pleasantly surprised. In a very rural area it was the Android phone that picked up a hit first. On one occasion, the Apple device didn’t have a signal while the Android did, but this also happened in reverse. This part of these test was mobile but when static both devices easily located the ‘stolen’ bike. A huge benefits of these tags is that there is no ongoing subscription cost. However, as ETA say, no replacement for reliable insurance.
