How can I save money on my mobility scooter?

mobility scooter insurance for couples

Mobility scooters are expensive to buy and run so being canny can save you thousands.

Buying a mobility scooter on the cheap

Mobility scooters come in many different shapes and sizes; Class 2 scooters are restricted to pavement use and 4 mph whereas Class 3 scooters can travel on the road at speeds of 8 mph. However, both types can be dear with prices ranging from around £500 to over £5,000.

While it’s tempting to buy the cheapest entry-level model scooter online, beware poor build quality and companies that monopolise after-sale repairs and servicing; you’ll be obliged to use them if anything needs doing. We’ve heard from owners in this situation who were forced to wait weeks for repair engineers.

Mobility scooters depreciate in value over time so using a reputable second-hand dealer can be a financially savvy way of owning a scooter from an established brand.

Why do you (& many others) persist in calling these mobility vehicles “Scooters”?
A scooter is a two-wheeled vehicle that you can scoot along, hence the name. No way should this word be bastardised to cover mobility vehicles, which are properly titled “Mobility buggies”.
Of course we also have motor scooters & e-scooters, but these still have two wheels, so are still scooters in the true sense of the word.
Incidentally my wife is disabled & has a powered wheelchair as well as a four-wheeled mobility BUGGY.
