It’s our birthday – The ETA is 33

the ETA is 33 years old this week

It feels good to be 33. Today we’re toasting the ETA, slapping ourselves on the back and celebrating many successes over the decades. There’s a lot to be proud of.

Not only did we launch the world’s first carbon-neutral breakdown service and this country’s first specialist cycle insurance cover, but year after year we’re named by The Good Shopping Guide as Britain’s most ethical provider.

As you may already know, we’re anything but a faceless insurance company. From day one, we’ve supported environmental projects at local, national and international level.

For example, every time you buy a policy from us, we support carbon reduction projects. At an international level, investment in efficient stoves in Kenya designed to lower carbon emissions and improve health have contributed towards a reduction of over 1.4 million tons of CO2.

Closer to home, here in Britain, we launched Green Transport Week and Car Free Day and even helped coin the phrase ‘Twenty’s Plenty’ to lobby for lower speed limits. All three campaigns have one thing in common; improving the quality of life for people. More recently, we promoted grass roots cycling through a community outreach programme called Back on a Bike.

If you follow us, you’ll be familiar with the way we help schools get safer crossings using our imaginative pop-up zebra crossing.

And you might be aware of our quirky custom bike builds. We’ve even managed to pick up a couple of Guinness World Records along the way.

Insurance with a difference

Our work to promote sustainable transport is never at the expence of our commitment to providing excellent insurance. But don’t take our word for it, we’ve got a shelf ful of awards to prove it. Last year we were named Claims Team of the Year by the Insurance Times and we’re through to the finals again in 2023.

The ethical choice

The ETA was established in 1990 as an ethical provider of green, reliable travel services. Over 33 years on, we continue to offer cycle insurance , breakdown cover  and mobility scooter insurance while putting concern for the environment at the heart of all we do.

The Good Shopping Guide judges us to be the UK’s most ethical provider.
