Your smartphone, the car mechanic
December 24, 2014
When a car mechanic gazes at a car, scratches his chin and says it’s going to be expensive, most drivers have to take them at their word and reach for their wallet, but a new app called mechanic advisor promises to put them at less of a disadvantage.
A Bluetooth-enabled key takes data from your car and transmits it to your phone providing an instant, and entirely objective, report of its health.
Instant diagnostic check
The app gives alerts and explanations for over 20,000 vehicle codes, ranging from low tyre pressure to severe engine issues.
Find a mechanic
If your car needs a trip to the garage, the app gives access to a database of over 500,000 mechanics, complete with profiles and customer reviews. The Ask a Mechanic feature allows you to ask questions and get advice from a professional mechanic right on your phone, at the time of your issue.

Breakdown cover (with £500 towards repairs)
As well as being 100% carbon neutral, breakdown cover from the ETA offers an unparallelled level of service. Every breakdown customer receives free Auto Repair cover worth £65. This covers you up to £500 against the costs of repairs following a breakdown. No other breakdown cover provides this level of reassurance, which we believe should come as standard. Get a quote
