World’s lightest electric bicycle - and it looks good, too
November 4, 2009

The 13.6kg Cytronex-powered Cannondale Capo is the world’s lightest full-size electric bicycle and arguably the best-looking machine of its kind.
The electric bike is almost indistinguishable from the standard Cannondale Capo around which it is built; the electric motor is concealed within the front wheel hub, the battery is disguised as a water bottle and there are no visible and unsightly cables connecting the two.
As the rider starts pedalling, a button on the handlebar engages the electric motor, which quickly accelerates the bike to 15mph for a maximum of 20 miles.
The electric bicycle comes of age
The battery’s estimated life of approximately 250 charges equates to 5,000 miles, although the exact figure depends on how much effort is put in by the rider. The battery costs £195 to replace.
The Cytronex electric battery and motor can be fixed to a variety of bicycles – the Cannondale Capo package costs £1650.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said; “This bike will open up cycle commuting to people ewho would like to cycle but worry that the distance might be to far and it looks good, too; the electric bicycle is no longer the ugly duckling of the cycling world.”
