Velopresso: Pedal-powered mobile coffee shop
September 12, 2014
Many a cyclist relies on a boost of caffeine to get their legs going in the morning, but a new pedal-powered mobile coffee bar trike called Velopresso cannot grind a bean until the barista themselves sets a pace.

The British-built Velopresso is pitched as an 'efficient, robust and humanised machine' perfect for city streets and piazzas.
During the development of the trike, the designers discovered that pedalling was not an option for generating heat directly or producing sufficient electricity for an espresso machine’s standard 3kW electrical heating element, so they instead installed a gas burner that uses LPG. Every other operation is pedal-powered, an 'off-grid' capability that offers the promise of a coffee stop at even the most remote of cycle ride stops.
