Top ideas for cycling on a shoestring

January 17, 2011

Can’t afford decent weather-proof cycle shoes?

Why not make your own with some Tesco’s bags and duct tape, as sported by my colleague today. Sadly his feet still got wet – not exactly Tesco’s finest!

Cycling is the perfect way to avoid parking charges, fuel bills, road tax and gym membership fees but it does not stop cyclists from devising imaginative ways to make it even better value. Following the news that resourceful cyclists are building their own ice tyres using pop rivets or cable ties for less than £2, we felt inspired to try some money-saving ideas of our own. Our own attempt at making waterproof overshoes out of a recycled carrier bag was an out-and-out disaster, but perhaps you can do better. Send us photos of your money-saving cycling tips and the best suggestion will win a cycle dynamo worth over £100 designed to re-charge devices such as mobile phones and MP3 players.

Simply like our facebook page and upload your pics for a chance to win.
