The electric bicycle that outperforms petrol scooters
November 27, 2009
The latest design of electric bicycle from Germany offers a performance better than that of many small petrol scooters.
Power-assisted bicycles are a rapidly expanding area of the electric vehicle market and high-performance designs, described in legal terms as ‘E-motorbikes’, are hoping to capitalise on this.
The GRACE looks much like any other good quality mountain-bike derived hybrid, but is one of the few bicycles to have lights incorporated into its design.
At 32kgs, it is heavy for a bicycle, but extremely lightweight for a scooter.
It is available as a city commuter with a top speed restricted to 28mph. An off-road version is tuned for torque rather than top speed and gives a maximum of 19mph.
The bike has a range of between 12.5 miles and 31 miles, depending it is used.
Prices start at around £5,100.
Insurance cover for electric bicycles
All bikes are vulnerable to theft and in the case of an accident you may need to seek compensation or even deal with a claim by someone else. Cycle insurance from the ETA is fully comprehensive and covers electric-assist bicycles.
At no extra cost, it includes new-for-old replacement, cover for accidental damage, third party insurance, personal accident cover and if you breakdown, we will even come out and recover you and your bike.
