Tesla turns $1m profit
August 11, 2009
Electric supercar-builder, Tesla Motors, sold a record 109 vehicles last month helping it to earn $1 million profit.
The company sells cars via its website and at showrooms in London and at three sites across America. A further six outlets are expected to open over the coming year.
The Tesla Roadster is the first production electric vehicle to offer a range and performance comparable to a petrol-powered car. It is able to travel more than 200 miles per charge of its Lithium-Ion battery.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “The Tesla Roadster is important not for its performance, which is excessive for most drivers on most roads, but because it represents a milestone for low-carbon vehicles – a car that paves the way for electric cars of every type.”
Warranty for electric vehicles
A new car warranty for electric vehicles has been developed by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA).
The warranty cover pays for parts and labour should the electric car suffer any mechanical or electrical breakdown (excluding the battery).
A spokesperson for the ETA said: “A car warranty can be a good way of keeping your car on the road longer, in the case of an electric vehicle helping to reduce further its life-long carbon footprint.”
How does the Tesla Roadster perform?
What is the ETA?
The ETA is an ethical organisation providing motorists and cyclists with carbon-neutral breakdown cover and insurance products – including a specialised service for electric vehicles.
