Speed devices set for tests
June 16, 2009
Devices which limit the speed that cars can travel at are being tested in Scotland, transport minister Stewart Stevenson has announced.
The technology is being fitted to vehicles north of the border as part of a scheme to cut road deaths by 40 per cent in the next ten years, with Mr Stevenson outlining a future where there are no road fatalities in the country.
He said: "It is absolutely intolerable that people are still dying on our roads each day and Scotland needs an ambitious vision in line with other leading countries in road safety."
Mr Stevenson added that the country’s new road safety framework "delivers distinct and challenging targets".
He went on to say that the Scottish government also wants the drink-drive limit reduced, with more breath tests being carried out.
Last month, the Yorkshire Post revealed that drivers in the region were set to take part in tests involving new technology which judges the speed of their vehicle across a long distance.
