Retro bicycle rides all the rage
February 15, 2013
A growing appetite for nostalgic cycle rides is as much in evidence across the channel as it is here. While we have the Tweed Run, an event held in London each year that grows in popularity by the year and currently has to hold a lottery to allocate places, the French have the Anjou Velo Vintage bicycle festival.
With an emphasis on recapturing the style and atmosphere of the early days of cycling, there are a number of events including the 1903 Retro. In order to take part you must be riding a bike from 1987 without handlebar gear shifters or cleats.
Participants are encouraged to don period costume in line with their Grand Bi, Hirondelle or Mercier in homage to the pioneers of Tour de France.
Cycle insurance, the old-fashioned way
Cycle insurance from the ETA includes everything we think you’ll need to enjoy your bike with complete peace of mind. As you might expect, it includes cover against theft (we don’t de-value your bike over time), accidental damage and vandalism, but what you might not realise is that we extend this to competition events such as triathlon for no extra charge. Oh, and if you fancy taking apart in the Anjou vintage velo festival, you will be pleased to know you will be covered against theft, accidental damage and vandalism for 90 days worldwide. Our excess is 5 per cent. Also included at no additional cost is third party cover of £5m, a breakdown recovery service for your bike and cycle hire if you are without the use of your bike following a claim.
