Footballer in speeding trouble
June 1, 2009
A Premier League and England footballer looks set to lose his driving licence due to speeding.
Jermain Defoe has been found guilty of travelling faster than the limit on two occasions and must now appear in court.
The striker is also in hot water for failing to declare who was behind the wheel of his Land Rover when the speeding offences took place.
Mr Defoe is in trouble for driving at 65mph in a 50mph zone last April and for travelling through an area with a temporary 50mph limit at 81mph.
The Tottenham Hotspur star already has six points on his licence, which are for speeding and using his mobile phone while behind the wheel.
He now faces an additional 18 points, which would result in a driving ban for the 26-year-old.
Last week, a study found that some motorists race to arrive at their destination faster than the predicted time given by their sat nav.
