Drink driver 'should act as a warning'
July 7, 2009
The case of a man who has been found to be over the legal alcohol limit while driving on nine occasions should act as a warning to others, a top police officer has said.
Chief superintendent Brian Anderson made the comments in reference to John Morrison, who was recently sentenced to eight months in prison for latest of these incidents.
The nine drink driving offences stretch back over almost 20 years, with the last coming in June. Chief superintendent Anderson said that the actions of Mr Morrison show that he has a "blatant disregard" for the safety of other road users: “I would hope that his situation will act as a warning to others who are tempted to have too much to drink before getting behind the wheel.”
Last week, Edwin Poots, the environment minister for Northern Ireland, warned motorists over the dangers of drink driving as a new safety campaign was launched.
