Car drivers switch to motorcycles to save money
June 2, 2009
While the car industry continues to decline, there has been a 24 per cent increase in the number of motorcyclists on the road this spring.
The migration from cars to bikes is a trend that may well continue; over 4million car drivers would be prepared to start riding a motorcycle to save money on fuel bills according to research by the Post Office.
Car drivers are attracted by the 100mpg fuel efficiency, the £15 road tax, cheaper insurance and free parking for scooters and smaller motorcycles.
A spokesperson for the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) said: “The fuel efficiency and carbon emissions of scooters and lightweight motorcycles are a fraction of those achievable by cars – they make good environmental sense for those unable to cycle.”
Breakdown cover for motorcycles
The ETA is an ethical organisation providing motorcyclists, motorists and cyclists with green breakdown cover and green insurance products. The ETA exists in order to campaign for sustainable transport
