Bike theft criminal convicted
December 7, 2009

A man has been found guilty of a series of bike thefts in Chiswick.
Rocky Taylor of Hampsted was pulled in for questioning when he was spotted by the Turnham Green Safer Neighbourhoods Team riding a stolen bicycle.
When officers searched the 36-year-old’s flat they discovered a number of stolen bikes and cycle parts.
Mr Taylor was also linked to various online advertisements for second-hand bicycles, which were later found by officers to have been stolen from burglaries.
He was sentenced to six months imprisonment at Isleworth Crown Court.
"We will continue to target cycle thieves in Chiswick, and we will endeavour to prosecute those who trade in stolen goods. It is worth noting that the cycles we were able to return to their rightful owners quickly were all registered on Immobilise," PS Ben Clark said.
"By registering your cycle, we are able to get it back to you and it helps us to prosecute criminals, as it can help prove that the goods were stolen and not bought legitimately."
Do I need cycle insurance?
The short answer is yes. Bikes are vulnerable to theft and in the case of an accident you may need to seek compensation or even deal with a claim by someone else. Cycle insurance from the ETA includes new-for-old replacement, third party insurance, personal accident cover and if you breakdown, they will even come out and recover you and your bike.
