Bicycle beats snowboard in downhill race
December 14, 2011
Bicycles have won races against horses, cars and even aircraft, and now a mountain bike has beaten a snowboard in a race down a snow-covered mountain side.
The course involved numerous jumps and a long flat section final stretch that proved of great benefit to the cyclist; the race took place days before the release of a snowboard paddle that allows users to get traction on flat snow.
Best bike in snow
A kit that transforms any bicycle into a caterpillar track-driven snow bike was imported from Canada last year by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA) to build its ejector seat and flamethrower-equipped Bond bike, but conventional mountain bikes perform just as well in snow up to a foot deep.
Cyclists who want to safeguard themselves against breakdown can call on a recovery service for bicycles. The ETA was the first organisation to offer breakdown recovery for cyclists in Britain and now includes the service for free with its cycle insurance.
Cycle insurance
Cycle insurance from the ETA includes new-for-old, cover for accidental damage, £1m third party insurance, personal accident cover and if you breakdown, we will even come out and recover you and your bike. Get an instant online quote below.
