Car Junkie Detox | Beautiful shoes vs. public transport

June 10, 2010

Today was by far the worse day of my challenge so far.

I had a very busy work schedule and had also agreed to baby sit in the evening.

In the morning I had a meeting in London, it wasn’t till 10.30 so I got up early worked from home for a few hours then got the train to London from Guildford.

The meeting was rather important and at the institute of directors, so I donned my smartest attire which consists of a super sharp pencil skirt, and super high heeled shoes.

Walked to Guildford station – got train to London and underground to Charing Cross. Meeting was about 10 minutes walk from station, and because I was feeling a bit guilty about my overuse of lifts on this project I walked (as apposed to getting a taxi) to the meeting. It wasn’t really that far – 10 minutes at pencil skirt induced totter pace, but by the time I arrived my feet were a little achy to say the least!

After my meeting I walked back to Charing Cross station – feet getting sorer by the minute, got underground to Waterloo and then train to Weybridge. By the time I got back to Weybridge I couldn’t bare the 15 minute walk in my painful (but very beautiful) shoes – so got a cab.

I had a super busy afternoon, and time got the better of me and realised to catch my train I had to be at the station in 15 minutes, taking into consideration my footwear choices this was not looking feasible. I got my self in a right old flap for a couple of minutes until a very kind colleague offered to drop me at the station on the way home, phew!! Another colleague nearly got a punch in the face when they ‘joked’ about my reliance of lifts!
I got to the station with about three minutes to spare, run through the crowd to get the platform stairs – which I then fell down, and broke one of my beautiful shoes. Needless to say I did get the train and make it home in time, shoeless and very very sad, but I got there in time.

Definitely the most poignant day so far – great footwear and public transport do not mix!!
