Aston Martin One-77 bicycle is no James Bond bike

July 6, 2012

No luxury car maker worth its salt is without a bicycle in its line-up so, not to be outdone by the likes of Ferrari and Porsche, Aston Martin is publicising its one-77 supercar with a road bike of the same name.

The car maker describes the bike as ‘the world’s most technologically advanced road bicycle’, but with a retail price of £26,000, the one-77 gives new meaning to the term high-end.

Aston Martin, which is forever associated with the James Bond franchise, chose to forgo the extreme gadgets beloved of the famous British spy in favour of “a fully integrated, multi-channel ergonometric data recording system that provides a rich, in-depth record of athletic performance.”

Like its cars, the Aston Martin One-77 bicycle may be expensive and fast, but the title of BOND bike must remain with the creation below.

Cycle insurance – what if I don’t have an ejector seat?If your cycle is not fitted with an ejector seat with which to dispatch bike thieves, worry not. Cycle insurance from the ETA includes new-for-old replacement if your bike is stolen, cover for accidental damage (race events included), third party insurance (in the case of an accident you may need to seek compensation or even deal with a claim by someone else), personal accident cover and if you breakdown, they will even come out and recover you and your bike.

Specifications..
Flame thrower52% of cyclists named ‘cars and lorries passing too close’ as their number one complaint, so the bike’s handlebars are fitted with a specially-designed flame thrower to fire towards vehicles that get too close
Caterpillar track25% cited poor road conditions such as potholes as a problem, so the bike is fitted with an all-terrain caterpillar track in place of its rear wheel
Ejector seat7% worried most about their bicycle being stolen, so the bike is fitted with an ejector seat to catch out any thief that gets past a conventional lock
Ski blade2% of respondents felt cold weather conditions were the most irksome aspect of cycling, so the bike carries a ski blade that can be interchanged with the front wheel
