Slinging a hammock is one of life’s simple pleasures. If you have a few metres of space and two minutes of sun this summer, what better way of whiling away your leisure time than snoozing, reading a book or simply daydreaming? And even if you don’t have the space yourself, a hammock is small and light enough to take with you on your travels. In fact, this particular design has two useful hoops that you can secure to your bicycle’s top tube.
The word hammock originates from the Taino people of Central America who used the word hamaca to describe nets made from rope fibres. Hammocks themselves can be traced back 1,000 years to the Mayan civilisation. The simple suspended beds provided a clever way to avoid dangerous creatures.
Win a hammock
We have two modern lightweight hammocks to give away. These one-person hammocks are made from durable ripstop and include the ropes you’ll need to secure it. Sling it up inside, between trees in your garden or take it further afield on a future trip in place of a tent.
To be in with a chance of winning a hammock, simply leave us a comment below and let us know where you’d sling it up.

I used to sling a hammock in the back of my 10 ton AEC British Army 6 X 6 truck (manufactured circa 1948!!!) whilst on exercise at Soltau-LΓΌneburg, West Germany. And that would be my pit for 4 or 5 weeks on FTX with aladin heaters burning underneath and -15 to -20degC on the thermometer outside. Aye – memory lane.
