The world’s smallest washing machine

Scrubba wash bag

The Scrubba wash bag provides a quick and effective means of washing your clothes on the move.

Its design incorporates a highly flexible washboard within a waterproof, sealable bag, and can be rolled up to fit easily inside a rucksack or suitcase. To use you simply add water, cleaning liquid and clothes to the wash bag before sealing it, deflating it and rubbing the clothes clean for a minute or two. The water can then be changed to rinse the clothes.

The Scrubba wash bag can clean two days’ worth of summer clothes at once, and was conceived by founder Ash Newland in 2010 while planning a trip to Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. In 2011 the project was launched on crowdfunding platform IndieGoGo, and now the Scrubba is appearing on retailers’ shelves around the world.

The success of the Scrubba has also allowed the company to support charity projects in Ethiopia and Bangladesh, bringing clean drinking water to people in need.

The Scrubba wash bag starts at around £45 and is available here.
