This retro style bicycle pannier from Goodordering boasts 18.5 litres of insulated picnic storage, a padded internal laptop compartment and a sling to carry it on your shoulder.
Jacqui Ma started her firm Goodordering to design a range of bags for urban cycling families and continues to run things from a flat on top of a bike shop in Hackney, East London. Her range of bags includes cycling bags, nappy change bags and toddler bags as well as school bags.
The first range was inspired by Japanese school bags and 80s retro travel bags. 70s and 80s references also give the bags a touch of nostalgia. The bags all have multiple pockets, extra padded straps and are water-resistant and hardwearing.
In case you’re wondering where the brand name comes from, Jacqui explains that ‘good ordering’ derives from the joy and satisfaction of ordering well at a restaurant. “Our family often went out for meals together and after a very satisfying meal, we would all call out ‘Good ordering!’ to mum.”

I would pack whatever I could find in my cupboards as I am really not that organised. Once I packed a bunch of bananas and a jar of olives. The bananas squished all over the inside of my panniers and on a hot day you can still catch a whiff of them! I did this on a first date. My datee was much much better. He packed lentil dhal and idli (Indian savoury cakes) along with not squish-able fruit. It worked as he is now my husband. So I would basically pack whatever he has made. And tea.

We’d pack a gorgeous, environmentally-friendly vegan picnic with lots of fresh, crunchy salad vegetables, home-made hummus, avocados, tomatoes, fresh wholemeal bread, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries all washed down with some cool, sparkling elderflower presse or even a chilled vegan white wine for a real treat.

I would definitely carry a book with me, and my picnic rug (very handy things), as they are almost always on my bike. A couple of beers, lemon pie slice and a chocolate treat like a chocolate bar. Probably a Cesar salad.

Just what I need for my hi-tech mobility scooter, Class 3! Together with my cell phone giving me route directions, my D-handlebars protected by waterproof cover, I shall look forward to my picnic break on a forest track comprising home made Paneer cheese with Cranberries, sourdough spelt bread with multi-grains and whey added for taste, and a bottle of home-brewed Mead. Depending upon the time of year there will be the addition of some foraged food from the hedgerows and perhaps some mushrooms found beneath the trees.
