Earth Day 2017

Earth Day 2017

At a time when the term ‘environment’ was rarely discussed, much less protested about, the first Earth Day, on April 22, 1970, galvanised 20 million Americans from all walks of life in an overwhelming display of support for ending the government’s laissez-faire attitude towards pollution.

Far from a flash in the pan, the event continues to this day and this year marks the 47th anniversary of Earth Day. Each year, more than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities.

The theme for Earth Day 2017 is Environmental and Climate Literacy.

Earth Day 2017

Education is the foundation for progress. We need to build a global populace fluent in the concepts of climate change and aware of its unprecedented threat to our planet. We need to empower everyone with the knowledge to inspire action in defence of environmental protection.

Environmental and climate literacy is the engine not only for creating green voters and advancing environmental and climate laws and policies, but accelerating green technologies and jobs.

This Earth Day, gather with your community for an Environmental & Climate Literacy Teach-In or another project focused on education.

Earth Day organisers have devised toolkits that lay out the steps for holding a successful event. Register your event and they will support you with promotion and advice.

The ETA has been voted the most ethical insurance company in Britain for the second year running by the Good Shopping Guide.

The ETA was established in 1990 as an ethical provider of green, reliable travel services. Twenty six years on, we continue to offer cycle insurance, travel insurance and breakdown cover while putting concern for the environment at the heart of we do.
