A new app promises to protect alloy rims from scuffs and scrapes.

Alloy wheels can be refurbished at the cost of about £50 per wheel, but it’s time and expense that the makers of SmartRim aim to help motorists avoid. A small device attaches to the inside of each wheel arch and gauges the distance between the car and the curb. A proximity warning is transmitted to your smartphone.
The app also a peak acceleration logging facility. The feature measures the interval between periods of accelerations. Such data can help promote the type of smooth driving that conserves fuel.
The SmartRim app can also help you locate your car if you have forgotten where it is parked.
