Police crack down on drink driving

As authorities around the country crack down on drink driving, West Yorkshire Police has revealed that it breathalysed more than 5,500 motorists last month.

The force took samples of breath from 5,546 people during June, with 599 found to be over the legal limit.

This represents a 23 per cent fall when compared to last year, when there were 230 positive tests out of 1,628.

Texting ‘increases chances of a crash by 23 times’

People who text while they are driving increase their risk of a crash by 23 times, a new study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute has suggested.

According to the research, which looked at 100 van and truck drivers, this raises the chances of an accident more than taking a mobile phone call while behind the wheel.
